Der GRINDHOUSE Trick Guide
Featuring Andre Lepszy and Benny Harmanus
Basics:
Grind:
That’s what you call a slide with your skates.
Curb:
Something made of stone you can grind on.
Rail:
Every bar you grind on.
360°:
Instead of using complicated names for spins it is usual to use the number of degrees. For example if doing a full spin is called “360°” (Three-Sixty) and one and a half spins are called “540” (Five-Forty).
Fakie:
Going „Fakie“ means rolling or landing backwards.
Soulfoot:
Many tricks are based on logging your foot parallel to the rail/ledge. That foot used to log in is called the "soulfoot".
Spin:
If you jump and turn around it’s called a spin.
Topside:
It is called „Topside“ if you grind and put all pressure on the outside of your soulfoot.
Alley Oop:
That’s what a spin is called when grinding backwards. You are always able to see the rail/curb while spinning.
Truespin:
It’s like doing „alley oop“ but without seeing the curb/rail for a moment.
Important for all Grinds:
Always go parallel to the rail and lift your feet parallel to each other. Keep the balance in the middle between your boots. Go fakie or spin after your grind to make it look perfect.
